New Software Installation Procedure

1. Backup data files for existing software, databases that you want to remain on the system being upgraded. (Do this for program files if necessary.)
   
   
2. Get a copy of the software on the original disk/CD/installation media. Label/list/record which computer(s) it will be installed on/not installed on (you may not remember everything that's been installed after 6 months).
   
   If you choose to download software from the Internet, make sure that you make a copy of it on another hard drive and/or on a separate CD, in case you have a hard disk crash. Don't forget to check the software for viruses, and malware/adware/spyware.
   
   
3. Read the software's installation instructions completely. Check to ensure that your system/network has the capacity and configuration to accept the software that you wish to install.

4. Turn anti-virus protection off (if you don't have it, get it)
   
   
5. Install software.
   
   
6. Test software for correct operation. If software doesn't work, remove it, then call Byte Butler at 619 595 0158 and schedule a visit or use a Byte Butler Fast Fix It request.
   
   
7. Turn anti-virus protection on.
   
   
8. Test software for correct operation. If it doesn't, turn anti-virus software off, remove non-functioning software, begin testing all other software for correct operation. Problems? call Byte Butler at 619 595 0158 and schedule a visit or use a Byte Butler Fast Fix It request.
   
   
9. Test all other software on the system/network for correct operation. If it works properly - enjoy your new software! - you're done
   
   
10. You get to this part of the procedure because there's still a problem. While the above process eliminates most installation problems, if the program still doesn't work, you need to:



1. upgrade your hardware
2. upgrade your software
3. upgrade both your hardware and software
4. buy a new computer, or
